Father Job Chittilappilly, who for 45 years carried out his pastoral work in the Catholic community of the Syro-Malabar rite, was found dead in the residence of Our Lady of Grace Parish, in the Diocese of Trichur, in the state of Kerala in Aug 28th , 2004.The priest had been praying the rosary before Mass when he was stabbed to death. "The first time a priest is killed in cold blood in Kerala.The Missionary Service News Agency reported Friday that the man arrested in the case, Reghu Kamar, 25, has confessed to the crime.

Kochi city police have arrested a woman on charge of supplying SIM cards to Thadiyantavide Nazir, alleged Leskar-e-Taiba operative, while he was in prison.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and intelligence agencies have already initiated probe into calls that came from abroad to the two SIM cards provided to Nazir.Deepa Cheriyan, 31, also known as Shahina, was arrested from SRM Road here on Wednesday by a police team led by Sunil Jacob, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam.Police sources said that the woman was living together with Noushad of Cheranallore, who was serving sentence in Ernakulam sub-jail where Nazir was also lodged. Noushad had been arrested with 3,000 ampoules of tranquilizers in his possession.

No urgent hearing on petition against Cardinal Alencherry

KOCHI: The judicial first class magistrate court has turned down an application for an urgent hearing on the alleged role of Cardinal Alencherry and Union minister K V Thomas, 'in trying to facilitate the release of Italian marines accused of killing two Indian fishermen'. Petitioner T G Mohandas from Koovappadom had alleged criminal conspiracy by the cardinal and the minister.

Habeas corpus to locate Kashmiri husband: HC doesn't have powers, says state

KOCHI: The Kerala high court doesn't have the jurisdiction to order the police to produce the Kashmiri husband of a Christian girl from Fort Kochi who is believed to be detained in Srinagar by relatives, the state government submitted to the court on Thursday.
