Second phase trial in Staines case starts

BHUBANESWAR: The district and sessions court here on Monday began its second phase trial against two accused in the murder of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two minor sons at Manoharpur in Keonjhar in January 1999.
The trial kick-started after the court on September 4 this year framed charges against Ghanashyam Mohanta and Ranjan Mohanta, who were arrested by CBI on May 17. The duo, charge-sheeted along with 16 other accused persons, was on the run.


Kandhamal Nun Gang Raped

BERHAMPUR/PHULBANI (Odisha): A 28-year-old trainee nun was allegedly gang-raped by three youths, including two cousins, after holding her forcibly for about a week in Odisha's Ganjam and Gajapati districts, police said on Monday.

The two cousins — Jatindra Subhasunder and Jogendra Subhasunder — were arrested, while the third accused was still at large, Kandhamal district Additional Superintendent of Police Gobind Chandra Mallick said.


Two Families Persecuted for accepting Jesus in Orissa

Mohan Soren of Dengabahali village, PO. Birosalo, Police station Kongkodahado, Dist – Dhenkanal, Odisha and Rabi Narayan Marandi, Bhalu Tanggaro village, PO Birosalo, Police station Kongkodahado, Dist – Dhenkanal, Odisha, along with their families came to faith in Jesus Christ in February 2013. Both the families felt that they need not participate in their village puja ceremonies and stopped giving their contribution to the temple. Aggrieved by this the villagers planned a strategy to attack the families. One day the angry mob entered Monah Soren house, forcefully took his belongings, costly vessels, rice etc. Later they beat Rabi Narayan Marandi badly and ordered both the families to leave the village immediately. So, with much fear of the mob they fled from their village. Now they are staying in a nearby village.


Christian villagers beaten in Orissa

Christian villagers in Orissa state, India, were abused and tortured by police, who barged into their homes in the middle of the night.
The incident in Phatachanchara village in Ganjam district happened on 15 February. Around 60 police officers surrounded the village at 2.30am and then forced entry to the Christians’ homes. One of them stepped on the hand of a four-year-old boy, causing a fracture.
