Dalit Pride March people attacked in Gujarat

Several Dalits returning from ''Dalit pride march'' in Una were beaten up on Monday night by people of other communities in two villages near the city in Gir Somnath district of Saurashtra region in Gujarat.

Four policemen also received injuries in the clashes and they were hospitalised. Police had to open fire in the air and burst tear gas shells to disperse mobs.

Dalits, who were assaulted, allege that the police did little to protect them from their attackers. Twenty-six people have been arrested so far.


Pastor brutally attacked by Hindu Fundamentalist in Andhra Pradesh.

Nalgonda – Andhra Pradesh: Pastor G.N. Paul was brutally attacked by 4 Hindu fundamentalists on 3rd July 11, while he was returning after completing his Sunday Service.
G.N. Paul, 35 years, has been conducting worship service at Baptist Independent Church, in Imperthi village, Munugodu Mandal, Nalgonda District, Andhra Pradesh, during the last 3 years. He was warned by the fundamentalists at least 3 times with dire consequences if he continued to conduct the prayer service and worship Jesus Christ at Imperthi village.

On Sunday, 3rd July, 2011, there were about 20 families as usual, gathered for the service. After the service and lunch, the pastor was returning to home. Suddenly, in a nearby village 4 people attacked him with knives and badly wounded him. He sustained serious stab injuries on his head and intestines. He has lost a lot of blood. The neighbors who saw the attack sent for an ambulance and got him admitted to the Nalgonda Government Hospital. However, since the injuries were serious, the doctors at the Nalgonda Government Hospital referred the pastor to the Osmania Government Hospital, which is situated in Hyderabad, the state capital of Andhra Pradesh.
