Christian leaders in India are disputing claims made by a Hindu nationalist group that talks are underway to set up a Christian organization within its structure to forge closer ties between the two religious communities.Indresh Kumar, national executive member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS national volunteer corps) Hindu group told local media on Jan. 3 that a Dec. 17 meeting between Christian leaders and RSS functionaries in New Delhi was the first step toward setting up a Christian organization within the RSS

As the latest terrorist atrocity in San Bernardino demonstrates, radical Islam can kill anywhere. However, the problem is far worse in the Middle East. The botched U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq dramatically accelerated the exodus of Christians. The chaotic outcome of the “Arab Spring” further spurred their exit. Today the Islamic State is attempting to complete a process of genocide/ethnic cleansing.

The Bishops ' Conference of India has launched an appeal for solidarity to all Catholics. Caritas and a relay of the Global Council of Indian Christians were the first to take the field. Dioceses are being organised. The budget speaks of 269 victims, about 3,000 displaced families, 7700 houses damaged, 1000 huts swept away.

Under the ‘Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order’ of 1950, scheduled castes and tribes enjoy certain economic, educational and social benefits, such as job quotas in the country’s bureaucracies. However, rights and privileges under the order are reserved only for Hindu, Buddhist and Sikh Dalits, at the exclusion of Christians and Muslims. For rights activist, “Children suffer the same discrimination”. This is unfair, especially today, Human Rights Day.
