Mangalore Church Attacked Days After PM's Remarks on Religious Tolerance

MANGALORE: A church in Mangalore in Karnataka has been vandalised last night; its window panes and door were damaged, though the statues within remained untouched, said police sources.

The attack comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to protect all religious groups; his comments were seen as a response to a series of attacks on Christian institutions in New Delhi fuelling concerns that minorities are being targeted by Hindu extremist groups.

Three new incidents provoked by ultra-nationalist Hindu community against Pentecostals. In two cases, the victims were admitted to hospital for wounds. Sajan George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC): "Shameful incidents, but should spur Christians to renew their faith in Christ."


CNI Church attacked in Mumbai

The Church of North India's St. Emmanuel's Church in Valani Colony, Orlem, Malad (W), Mumbai was targetted by anti-social gang of around 8 persons on Sunday. the 1st of August 2010, who beat up the worship gathering of believers. Of them one, Ponkumar Nadar was grievously injured and is serious in Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali (W), while others, including one Devashish Nadar who was bleeding & the other injured are being treated privately.
