The Background of this incident is as given below
RSS & VHP Workers Attack Fasting & Praying Women, Beat up a Pastor Unconscious, and Destroy Bibles & Rob His Wife’s Gold & Silver.
Jhabua – Indore (M.P): Pastor Ramesh Vasunia (35) is in charge of an independent church, Faith Calvary Church, in Jhaida village about 15 Kilometres from Jhabua, one of the districts of Madhya Pradesh about 100 Kilometres from the city of Indore, the commercial capital of MP. He lives with his wife Indira Vasunia (30) and 3 children – Rahul (13), Immanuel (11) and Daniel (9). They are practicing their religion and preaching the good news under great stress and continuous persecution in the entire Jhabua district over a long period.
On Friday, 9-12-11, under the guidance of pastor’s wife, Mrs. Indira Vasunia, a day of women’s fasting and prayer was being organized at her residence at the Jhaida village. Pastor Ramesh was away on some personal work. While the fasting and prayer was on, about 100 RSS and VHP activists surrounded the house from all four sides and began pelting them with big stones and then they forced themselves inside the house and burnt 3 Bibles and tore all the Christian literature. They also tore up the photos of Jesus Christ and broke a wooden cross and their coloured television set. They then also opened Pastor Ramesh and his wife’s personal almirah and stole his wife’s silver and gold chains worth about Rs.30,000/- Not satisfied with all this plundering and destruction, they beat up pastor’s 50 year old mother and broke one of her legs. Pastor’s wife and other women ran away to save themselves and got in touch with the pastor and explained to him as to what was happening in their house and asked him to rush back home immediately.
At about 6 pm when Pastor Ramesh reached his village along with a believer, one Babu Vasunia (30), on his motor cycle, about 20 RSS and VHP workers waiting for them at the village entrance, attacked them and badly beat them up alleging that they were forcibly and fraudulently converting Hindus to Christianity and trying to bring in a foreign religion into their village. Both of them were beaten so badly that they began bleeding all over and the pastor also fell unconscious. However, they still continued to beat them with stones, with their fists and also kicking them at their stomachs. They also dragged the pastor on the road getting his clothes torn all over. Babu Vasunia was also beaten badly causing serious head injuries.
The onlookers later told the Pastor Ramesh when he regained his consciousness that they also threatened to cause still greater damage and hurt to him, if he persisted with his preaching and teaching his religion to the villagers. The spectators also told them that they were carrying with them lethal weapons like pistols, bows and arrows, and also phalia, a sword like weapon.
Later, Pastor Ramesh along with Babu Vasunia went to the Antarwailya Poice Station in Antarwailya Village about 6 Kilometres away from Jhaida village and met the Head Constable Kushwaha and briefed him about the incident in their village and asked him to file an FIR against the culprits. But, since there were no police officers or any other constables in the station as they were all on duty at Aliraipur on account of the visit of the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chowhan to Alirajpur that very day, they would visit their village and conduct an inquiry into the incident some time later. Beaten bruised and disappointed they went back to their village. Please pray for them.
