Global council of Indian Christians (GCIC) demands to protect Religious Rights of miniscule syero-Malabar catholics in Ramamurthy Nagar-Bangalore.GCIC also demands to order a probe against the lower level police officials involved in the intimidation of the catholic Priest Rev.Fr. George Parekandathil

Ramamurthy Nagar: Ramamurthinagar Police have deliberately denied the execution of the court order in order to support the local Hindu fundamentalist groups. Although the St. Mary’s Church Trust in Ramamurthinagar has got the court order to possess and use the property which is owned by the same Trust for the Christian minority of the area, the police, with the support of the local Sangh Parivar politicians, intervened and stopped the faithful from their rightful possession of the property.GCIC fear the safety and security of Fr. George and the lay leaders.We appeal to the home department to suo motu proceed against the Ramamurthy Nagar police Inspector and his cahoots for condemn of court and dereliction of duty.
It was in 1988, that the Christian community of 200 families bought a place for prayer at Ramamurthy Nagar. This property was fenced and they had a small room to conduct prayer services on Sundays. And it was functioning peacefully for the last 22 years. But when they started to renovate this temporary structure, some of the members of that area, opposed the rightful possession of the land by interference. They threatened this minority community with the help of local police and political leaders, in order to stop the community activity, for their personal interests. To continue the renovation work, community approached court. And they received an injection order in favor of this community for possessing the land and renovate the temporary shed. Based on this court order, they approached the Ramamurthinagar police station and asked for support for implementing the same. But while starting the work, the police not only did not give any support based on the court order, but also abused and harassed the members of the community and entered the site and stopped the work forcefully. It is a clear instance of discrimination to the minority religions from the part of the majority people, political rulers and the police machinery. Instead of giving protection to the civil rights of the citizen, they have intervened and violated it and the court order by entering into the property and stopping the work forcefully. If our police force is flexible to the ruling political parties and individuals commands for rejecting basic rights of minorities, how can the court of justice execute equal justice to all?
Let the protectors of law not mock the men and women and nations that worked together at the constituent assembly to provide us a constitution based on justice and liberty.
The attempts of the lower level police and sangh Parivar is scandalous and a travesty of the noble vision and ideals enshrined in Indian constitution.
They are our “firewalls against barbarism”
