Falsely Implicating in Kidnap & Forcible Conversion,Christian Jailed in Karnataka

South Kanara (Karnataka): 03-07-2011- This is a classic example of an innocent Christian in South Kanara ending up in jail for trying to be a “good Samaritan” with his compassion and love and extending his helping hand to a run-away boy trying to free himself from the tortures of his step-mother at Uppinangadi in South Kanara.
Hardly did poor Praveen Lancy D’Souza,29, know 3 months ago when he heard the pitiable and heart-rending story of Karthik ,14, an 8th Std. student, who had run away from his house at Uppinangadi, unable to bear the tortures of his step-mother, and pleaded with Praveen to give him some shelter in his house. Moved by pity and sympathy, Praveen took him to his house and gave him shelter in his poor house. Perhaps, one additional young boy in their little house did not make much of a difference, as Praveen’s house was already full of people. They are 6 children to their parents - Anthony D’Souza, 57, his father, a mason, and Rosy D’Souza,50, his mother, a coolie, and 4 of his younger brothers, and 2 younger sisters at his residence at Badakar Village in Belthangady Taluk. Praveen, the eldest in the family, has been working as a security guard in some private firm. They are a simple hard-working and happy Catholic Christian family that belonged to St. Peter Claver Church at Haledangady, who also believed in praying together in a small group sometimes, whenever time permitted, in keeping with the words of Christ, where two or more came together in His name He is present in their midst.

Karthik, grateful to the D’Souzas for giving him the badly needed shelter, who did not want to be a burden to the poor D’Souzas, also found himself some work in a nearby canteen as a helper. Whenever there were prayer sessions in the house, he too used to sit in a corner, as naturally he could not just run out of the house every time when they began praying, since it also rains cats and dogs in South Kanara now. But, unfortunately for the D’Souzas, as well as for poor Karthik, the vigilant and ever watchful Sangh Parivar activists of South Kanara, this is another wonderful opportunity to crucify one more Christian in the now notorious for Christian-baiting coastal district of South Kanara, in the BJP ruled State of Karnataka.
The saffron brigade moved into action, somehow they got in touch with Karthik’s parents in Uppinangadi, caught hold of some policemen from the Uppinangadi police station and went hunting for Praveen in a private jeep of their own, looking for him in his house at Belthangady on Friday, 01-07-2011, who was away at work. When they searched for him all over the place but could not find him, they caught hold of his younger brother, Melwin D’Souza, as a pawn, arrested him and took him with them to Uppinangadi, warning the stunned poor parents that unless and until Praveen surrendered himself before the police, Melwin would not be released.
Without realizing what exactly was happening and also feeling terribly sorry for his innocent brother, the helpless Praveen surrendered himself before the police on 2-7-11, Saturday morning, at the Upponangadi police station, who kept him in the station till late into the evening and filed the FIR against him charge-sheeting him for kidnap and forced conversion, u/s 295-A and 506 of IPC, and produced him before the Magistrate at Puttur, who sent him to the Sub Jail in Mangalore. The case has been posted for hearing on Tuesday, 5-7-11, and Global Council of India Christians (GCIC), has appointed the advocate, Mr. Santhosh, who would appear on behalf of Praveen and try to bail him out. Please pray for Praveen.
