THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:Kerala Director of Public Instruction A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish has directed the management of St. Philomina's School, Poonthura, to immediately convene a meeting of the executive committee of the school Parent-Teacher Association to discuss the alleged incident in which a Class VII girl was harassed for wearing a headscarf (mufta) to school.
Representatives of the management met Mr. Hanish at his office on Monday. . He advised them to adopt an inclusive stand on the matter and to let the ParentTeacher Association discuss the issue and arrive at an amicable settlement. He also threatened the Christian school that if the students are not allowed to deviate from the prescribed school uniform the (un) civil administration will intervene
The management's representatives told Mr. Hanish that no student had been harassed at the school for sporting religion-related attire. They assured him that the executive committee of the school PTA would meet within two days. Mr. Hanish is scheduled to meet the parents of the girl concerned and representatives of Muslim groups on Tuesday.A similar row was created in a christian school in Alleppy (Kerala)believed to promote a non christian school in the vicinity and to whip up passion against christian institutions.
