Bangalore Sept 24: A plethora of prelates graced the 65th anniversary
celebrations of the Asian Trading Corporation (ATC) at a public function at St. Johns Medical college auditorium, September 23. Marking the anniversary celebrations were the release of ATC’s Revised Standard Version of the Bible in India, the Indian version of the Holy Father’s book ‘Spirit of the Liturgy’ and the inauguration of ATCs third branch at St. Antony’s Friary in Bangalore.
While introducing the day’s programme, Salesian priest Fr. Joe Mannath said “Writing matters, whether good or bad. Church media presence in India is weak in comparison to the secular media, ATC has played an important role and have published over 1000 books and made books available from abroad as well. As religious people, we spend so much on buildings and food. But we spend little to nourish our minds. In India we have a pathetic education system that does not encourage reading. May the habit of reading grow before technology takes over printing and published works”.
Redemptorist priest Fr. Assisi Saldanha informed the gathering that “The RSV Bible that was published in 1901, is the revised version of The King James version first printed in 1611. In 1937, the New Testament was revised and the entire Bible revised in 1952. ATC has got the Rights to print the Revised Version in India”.
