Andhra Pradesh and Telegana urged to repeal anti Christian Government Orders746 and 747
Pastors and leaders of churches and Christian organisations in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana states urged State governments to repeal GO 746 and GO 747 issued on June 2, 2007 and the ‘Andhra Pradesh Propagation of Other Religions in the Places of Worship or Prayer (Prohibition) Act, 2007’ passed by the Assembly on July 23, 2007,
Recent days Police arrested persons while they were preaching about Christ or during distributing Bibles or tracks in both Telugu States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
While GO 746 has accorded a special status and dispensation to Tirumala by changing its nomenclature to ‘Tirumala Divya Kshetram’, GO 747 was issued notifying 19 Hindu temples for prohibiting propagation of other religions.
They said these GOs “sidetrack and violate the fundamental rights of non-Hindu citizens and are bound to encourage more attacks by Sangh Parivar on Christians.
”According to this Act the persons who propaganda of other religion at the places of worship which notified by the Govt are punishable with 3 years imprisonment. The offence is Cognizable by Police and Non-Bailable.
During election campaigns all political parties promised abolish the GOs. But in vain. This GOs are null and void as it is is against Article 19 of Indian Constitution.
