CHRISTIANS IN PUNJAB DEMAND JUSTICE, SECURITY
Hate campaigns against Christians must end; Union Government urged to protect the liberty and freedom of minorities.
ARRESTED CULPRIT PARAMJIT SINGH AKALI SHOULD BE BOOKED FOR LIFE
Christians of Chandigarh and surrounding districts of Panchkula and Mohali rallied under the aegis of Tricity Churches Association (TCA) today at the Salvation Army church, Chandigarh. The gathered congregation condemned the shameful remarks made by the Sikh Priest Paramjit Singh Akali against Lord Jesus Christ. All gathered considered this as a sacrilege and atrocious.
The Christian Community is deeply hurt by the sordid remarks against the Lord Jesus Christ and also against the implication that was very clearly made by Paramjit Singh that all the conversion are made by inducements and allurements. He said that the Christians are given a large sum of money to Convert people.
The Christian gathering voted for a Memorandum to the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Governor of Punjab and the Chief Administrator of Chandigarh. It was also voted to send a delegation to Shiromani Gurudawars Prabandak Committee, Amritsar to register the sentiments of the community.Further TCA has ensured that the Christian community will remain peaceful in the Tri-city, while reports of display of anger and angst by the Christian community in other towns has been received. TCA condemn Violence and propagates peaceful means to find solutions to problems.
A hate campaign continues unabated in the media and on the streets, targeting Christians and their faith, questioning their patriotism and stigmatizing their religious personnel.
The Centre must use Constitutional provisions to ensure that State governments implement guarantees of freedom of faith and protection of the homes, places of worship, and livelihood of the religious minorities.
Further, Anti-social elements like Paramjeet Singh Akali, must be dealt with severely as per the law of the land and should not be granted bail.
Further, The state Government should ensure that in future such incidents should be thoroughly investigated and the conspiracy if any against the Christian community in Punjab should be un-earthed.
We have high regard for the Sikh community and their beliefs. We know that persons like Paramjeet Singh Akali are mis-guided anti-social elements and do not share the same sentiments as the rest of the Sikh Community.
