Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), July 24, 2004: Thousands of Christians, belonging to different denominations, took out a silent procession against the ongoing screening of controversial film `The Da Vinci Code' in Vijayawada City on Sunday, July 24th to register their strong protest in a cinema theatre for last two days.

The theatre has been screening the film in the dubbed version in Telugu.

The procession began at the Church of South India (CSI) campus at Governorpet and culminated at Collector's camp office after passing through Dornakal Road, Kothavantena and Eluru Road.

Members of the Church of South India, Roman Catholic Church, Lutheran, Baptist and Salem Voice Missions participated in the protest.

The demonstrators held out placards condemning attempts to "commercialise and tarnish the sanctity of Jesus Christ." They demanded that the screening of the film be banned, as it was full of "fabrications" hurting the sentiments of the Christian community.
