Rockets hit west Aleppo wounding three Christians

Aleppo (AsiaNews) – Rockets launched from Aleppo’s rebel-held eastern sector have hit "houses and buildings inhabited by civilians," including a Christian area seriously wounding at least three people (pictured), said Fr Alsabagh Ibrahim, the 44-year-old parish priest at the city’s St Francis’s Latin Church.

Christian women describe hiding from ISIS in a dorm room for hours during the attack.The girls hid in this room for seven hours until ISIS fighters finally left. Iraq (CNN)The small dorm room in Kirkuk, with gray-speckled terrazzo floors and wooden cots, was home to Monaly Najeeb and six other Christian women after ISIS took hold in Mosul and they were forced to abandon college.
They restarted their studies in the Kurdish-controlled city, in that humble room, where they could once again study, pray and even laugh.

Iraqi forces battled on Sunday through booby-traps, sniper fire and suicide car bombs to continue their Mosul offensive, while also hunting Islamic State (IS) group jihadists behind attacks elsewhere in the country.
Kurdish forces announced a new push at dawn Sunday on Bashiqa, northeast of Mosul where some 10,000 fighters are engaged in a huge assault to take the IS-held town.

An annual report revealed the horrific state of religious persecution worldwide and criticized the European Union for not doing enough to curb these abuses.

The European Parliament Intergroup on Freedom of Religion or Belief and Religious Tolerance (FoRB&RT) released June 30 its "Annual Report on the State of Freedom of Religion or Belief in the World 2015-2016" where it revealed 53 countries suppressing such human rights.Members of the European Parliament (MEP) Peter van Dalen and Dennis de Jong, who also chair the group, raised the alarm on the mass persecution suffered by Christians and religious minorities at the hands of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) terrorist group.
